Sending and Receiving Reminder

July 2, 2007 at 12:49 pm | In Doll Quilt Swap | 4 Comments

Hello Ladies,

I’m so excited to see all the quilts being finished and revealed!  I just wanted to remind those of you that are in the early groups, you need to send your quilt out by July 12.  That’s about a week and a half away.  Also, don’t forget to let your swap mama know when you have sent your quilt or when you receive one.  We just want to keep track to make sure everyone is covered.

Thanks!

Wendy N.

An Update

Doll Quilt Swap II

I am one happy swap mama since the first of my group’s quilts are off. Tracie finished up and sent this beauty earlier this week. And she says she doesn’t know how to quilt! Hooray for newbies — I was one myself last round.

Not to be outdone Alicia also sent her quilt this week. She made two quilts — one to send and one to keep. She’ll reveal more than the label when it’s in the lucky receipent’s hands.

Lots of other swappers have been reporting in on their inspiration and progress as well. Shannon is being inspired by a photo in Denyse Schmidt Quilts. Stefanie — another newbie — has been inspired by some great fabric. Tania’s collected a beautiful group of fabrics for her quilt and looking to her favorite quilts from round 1 for inspiration. Toni shared a sneak peak of her stash-busting quilt. And Sherry — unfortunately blog-less — reports that she’s being inspired by the book Colourwash Quilts: A Personal Approach to Design & Technique.

Great job ladies… we cannot wait to see more!

Grab your partners, do-si-do

June 26, 2007 at 9:40 pm | In Doll Quilt Swap | 5 Comments

Hi, swappers-

Everyone should have received their partners. Please let us know if your partner information hasn’t reached you yet! I tried to send partner info to one one poor person four times and finally had to tag team with another Swap Mama, who forwarded it on to her. (thanks, Wendy!)

…and there might be room for one more swapper. I somehow left one of the ladies off the list and she doesn’t have a partner! We’ll see how the response to this post goes.

UPDATE: Thank you for the responses, and for those who volunteered to join late. There’s no longer a need for new swappers.

The quilt previews are lookin’ good! Go, us! I’ll be checking in before the weekend with my group’s progress.

The End.

Early Group Progress Updates

June 25, 2007 at 10:56 pm | In Doll Quilt Swap, WIP | 3 Comments

I should probably first say that I have one of the early groups. We have to send our doll quilts out by July 12. I have two very fast ladies in my group. Becky was done with her quilt before some of you probably even had your partners, and she was asked to patiently wait till everyone was served. And Amy S. already has her’s in the mail today. So if you are in an early group you can start stalking your mailbox in eager anticipation! Who will be the first to get their quilt?!

Erin gives us a sneak peak of the colorful strips she painstakingly chose for her doll quilt.

Jodie has finished her log cabin quilt top.

Lene is putting together something to match tastes for traditional quilts and primary colors.

Lisa shows us the quilt blocks she has together for her Denyse Schmidt-loving partner.

Rashida has picked out some beautiful aquas and may be trying her hand at some appliqué.

Sara D. shares some inspiration for her quilt.

Sarah D. has changed her mind from her original idea and is digging in to a stash just acquired from her Aunt Madeline.

And I’m not in my own group for the sake of secrecy, but here is the sneak peak of the log cabin and appliqué doll quilt I’m working on. I’m excited to be finishing up the top tonight!

I hope I did not miss any blog updates. If you’re in my group, just let me know and I’ll update this list. And if you don’t have a blog, let us know of your progress as well! - Wendy N.

Who? What? Where? When? Why?

Here are a few links I’ve found on labeling quilts. The give several different perspectives on what they might look like and the information to include.

  • How to quilt: great ideas for label content
  • Sew a quilt: step-by-step instructions to making a label. (The freezer paper step is not strictly necessary, but it is SO helpful in stabilizing the fabric you’re writing on. Rolls of freezer paper are available near the food storage bags and wraps at your grocer.)
  • Quilt Lovers Guide: examples, and a neat idea about including fabric scraps should the quilt ever need repair.
  • Lost quilt come home: the whole site is a cautionary tale about why you should label a quilt.
